The first Brandon Sanderson book I ever read was Warbreaker. It was a standalone book with no sequels. It still doesn't. I heard from friends at the time that there were other books like Mistborn to read, but I wanted something less committing than a full series.
I was just coming off The Sword of Truth, which - for a guy who hadn't heard of The Wheel of Time at that point in life - was actually a good series to read. So I gave it a go and loved it. Since then, I've gotten more Sanderson books and even had three of my Stormlight Archive books signed.
